Overview of course

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and provide medication assistance and complete medication documentation. It also involves supporting a client to self-administer medication.

This unit applies to community services and health workers with authority in their state or territory to assist with the administration of medication.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards, and industry codes of practice.

Who should apply for this course and why?

This course is targeted at students who are seeking to develop or refresh their skills and knowledge in medication assistance to further their career prospects or study pathways.

The unitHLTHPS006 Assist clients with medication is included in many qualifications within Training Packages. Therefore, a statement of attainment for these units can be used as credit for a range of qualifications.

Training and assessment information

This course is delivered face-to-face in a classroom-based setting, as well as in the workplace.Practical assessment must also be completed in the workplace. Therefore you will need to be able to access a workplace.

The timetable for this course will be advised in your Offer Letter and Student Agreement.

You are required to attend classes for 12 hours where you will complete a mix of theory and practical activities.

You will also be required to complete practical assessments in the workplace.

The assessments for this course will include:

  • Knowledge questions
  • Portfolio

Please note that prior to completing the workplace assessments you will need to have successfully completed two simulations,

Your classes will be conducted in modern classrooms and you will be able to access Wi-Fi. You will be provided with a Student Guide for learning.

Student support

  • support with personal issues
  • access to additional learning resources
  • reasonable adjustment in the assessment
  • information about external sources of support.

You may not have studied for a while, may have English as a second language, or need additional assistance with literacy or numeracy.

We will identify any additional support needs you may have at the time of application and enrolment and may prepare a Student Support Plan for you based on those needs.

What are the entry requirements?

Achievers College has the following entry requirements:

You must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.
  • Have language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skill sufficient to complete the course, for example, to read materials relevant to the course, participate in discussions and roleplays and apply numerical concepts such as time management. This will be tested through a LLN assessment as part of the course entry process. Students will need to achieve ACSF level 2 for reading, writing, numeracy, and oral communication to enter the course.

Please note you must also be able to access a workplace to complete your practical assessments in.

To apply for this course, you are required to complete an enrolment form. On receipt, we will be in touch to conduct a course interview and LLN assessment.

If your application is successful, we will send you an Offer Letter and Student Agreement. You should
make sure you read through this document carefully to make sure you are happy with all of the terms
and conditions. If you are, then simply sign the document and send it back to us.
Once we receive this, we will issue you with a Enrolment Confirmation and an invoice for payment.
